Natural Energy Development

Natural Energy Development Co., Ltd. was founded in year 2008 as a power company in Thailand with its aim to develop renewable energy projects in the region. The company owns and operates two solar power plants with the total installed capacity of 63 MW. The 55MW Lopburi Solar power plant and the 8MW Wang Ploeng Solar power plant have started commercial operation and delivered clean electricity to the grid since 2011 and 2013 respectively.

Natural Energy Development Co., Ltd. is a joint venture company in which Electricity Generating Public Company Limited (“EGCO”) holds 66.67% share and CLP Thailand Renewables Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of CLP Holdings Limited (“CLP”), holds 33.33% share.

Founded in 1901 in Hong Kong, the CLP Group is one of the leading power companies in Asia-Pacific. Through the years, CLP has grown to become a conglomerate of companies with a portfolio of over 30 generation assets and retail businesses in different countries in the region.

Over the past two decades, CLP has expanded its footprint from Hong Kong into mainland China, Australia, India, Thailand and Taiwan. CLP has the total generating capacity of over 17,000 MW of which over 1,300 MW or around 10% of the total generating capacity of its portfolio is from the renewable energy. This is as a result of a commitment to reduce the carbon emissions intensity of our power generation portfolio by about 75% by 2050 as CLP’s contribution to the collective response to tackling the challenge of climate change.

Hong Kong

In Hong Kong, CLP operates a vertically integrated electricity generation, transmission and distribution business. It supplies electricity to approximately 80% of Hong Kong's total population.

Being the flagship subsidiary of CLP Group and the largest electricity provider in Hong Kong, our Hong Kong business contributes a significant portion (over 70%) of the Group's operating earnings.

Chinese Mainland and Asia Pacific

Started investing in Chinese Mainland electricity industry in late 1970s, today CLP is the largest external investor in China's power industry with interests in nearer 20 projects located across nine provinces.

Riding on the successful experience in Hong Kong and China, the Group has rapidly expanded in active energy markets in Asia Pacific. CLP has become a leading international private-sector power company in the region, with equity in about 6,400 megawatts of generating assets in Australia, India, Thailand and Taiwan.

Electricity Generating Public Company Limited (EGCO)

EGCO is the first independent power producer in Thailand. It was incorporated on May 12, 1992 by Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) which marked the commencement of the Thai government’s privatization initiatives to allow broader private sector investment in the power sector. EGCO was transformed into a public company on March 23, 1994 and was listed on the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) on January 16, 1995.

EGCO is a holding company with investment in power generation and supply as well as comprehensive energy services providing operation, maintenance, engineering and construction services to power plants and other industries in Thailand and overseas. Furthermore, the company also searches for other good opportunities for growth in the energy related to the core business. EGCO owns and develops generating units which cover diversified fuels such as natural gas, coal, diesel oil, hydropower and biomass, in accordance with the government’s policy on fuel diversification to ensure energy stability. Its current total capacity in equity base is more than 4,000 MW.
